What is C.G.M.S.?

CGMS stands for Continuous Glucose Monitoring System or Test System (CGMS, Continuous Glucose Monitor System). It consists of a small sensor that has to be kept under the skin continuously for 1 week. It measures the amount of glucose in the tissue fluid under the skin.If you measure your glucose level 2 to 3 times a day with your normal blood glucose meter and keep recording it on the CGMS device, then in this way, the CGMS device can be read at any point of time in 24 hours, without re-reading. Prick the needle in the finger, you can see the amount of blood sugar. You can also put an alarm on it, which will ring in case of low sugar. At present the cost of this instrument is high. Please consult your doctor for more details.

Briefly Explain :

  1. In Type-1 diabetes, it is mainly necessary to inject insulin daily. Type-2 diabetes also requires insulin after a few years of diabetes.
  2. There are two types of insulin – the first whose effect lasts for a short time and the second whose effect remains for a long time.
  3. Insulin is measured in units. Insulin is available in two sizes in India; 40 units per ml and 100 units per ml. Take a 40 unit syringe with 40 units of insulin.
  4. As far as possible, insulin should be kept in the refrigerator. If this is not possible, then it should be kept wrapped in a cloth in a cool, shady place.
  5. Injection should not be done repeatedly in the same place.
  6. Never stop insulin during the days of illness, rather it may have to be taken in extra quantities.
  7. Do not use the same insulin syringe more than 2-3 times. The dullness of the needle tip can cause more pain.
